MMU/Jim Babcock Memorial and Missouri River Energy Services Scholarship Program
Marshall Municipal Utilities (MMU), in conjunction with Missouri River Energy
Services (MRES), is offering scholarship funds for high school seniors. On an
annual basis, MMU will award a one time first and second place local scholarship
in the amount of $1000 and $500 to high school seniors whose legal guardian is a
customer of MMU and who plans to enroll in a full time undergraduate course of
study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or
vocational-technical school no later than the fall of the year in which the
award is granted.
In addition to MMU’s scholarship awards, high school seniors whose legal guardian
is a customer of MMU are also eligible for one of ten $1,000 scholarships from
MRES. On an annual basis, MRES awards up to ten (10) $1,000 scholarships to
high school seniors residing in one of MRES’ municipal utility service areas and
who plans to enroll in a full time undergraduate course of study at an
accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical
school no later than the fall of the year in which the award is granted. MRES
awards are renewable for up to three additional years for students who meet
academic performance requirements.
The scholarship programs are administered by Scholarship Management Services®, a
division of Scholarship America®. Scholarship
Management Services is the nations largest designer and manager of scholarship
and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations,
associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race,
color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or national origin.
Academic achievement accounts for 50% of the selection criteria. The
remainder is based on a combination of factors, including work experiences,
activities, awards and honors, career goals and plans, unusual circumstances
such as hardships, and a brief statement
about the benefits of their locally owned municipal electric utility. Students
who plan to pursue electric industry-related fields of study are given some
preference.
Please note that the Scholarship Application may be filled out online, but it
must be mailed to Missouri River Energy Services Scholarship Program,
Scholarship Management Services, One Scholarship Way, PO Box 297, Saint Peter,

Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association Scholarship Program
The Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association (MMUA) Scholarship Program is offered through
Marshall Municipal Utilities (MMU) to High School Seniors who (or their legal
guardian) are current customers of MMU. The MMUA scholarship funds totaling
$5,000, are split four ways and awarded to First ($2,000), Second ($1,500), Third
($1,000), and Fourth place ($500) essay
contest winners who plan to attend a post secondary educational institution.
Submitted essays are to be based on the theme "Municipal Utilities - Good for
all of us" and be 500 to 1,000 words
in length, typed and doubled spaced. Judges will look particularly for the relevance of the theme to the writer and his or
her city. All essays should include a cover page with the writers name and
address.
An independent evaluator will make the determination of the local winning essay which will be forwarded
to MMUA for competition at the state level. The MMUA Communications/Member Services Committee will recommend three essays to the MMUA board for final
awards at the state level.
MMUA will announce the state winners in May.
Scholarship money will be payable upon receipt of a fee statement from an accredited post-secondary
educational institution. The award checks will be made payable to the contest
winner and the post-secondary institution. If the contest winner does not
attend an accredited post-secondary educational institution within two years,
the money will revert to a trust fund and become available to future contest
winners.
